RANGERS 2 (Adam 62, Darcheville 75 Pen)
STUTTGART 1 (Gomes 56)
A brilliant finish by Stuttgart’s most prized asset, Mario Gomes, gave the Germans the lead. Khedira fired in a cross from the left, Cacau tried to back heel the ball but missed and with the deftest of touches Gomes flicked the ball past McGregor. Rangers full back Alan Hutton made the equaliser with a phenomenal run. He picked up the ball on the right flank 50 yards from goal and ran through FOUR tackles as he charged towards the centre of the box then passed out wide to Adam, Adam cut inside the advancing Osorio with his left foot before curling inside the post with his right. Incredible goal. Meira stopped another threatening run from Hutton with a kick aimed at his bollocks, he should have been sent off but Stefano Farina is the worst referee in Serie A and only gave him a yellow. Darcheville made no mistake from the spot.
What a fantastic game of football. Easily the best of the opening round. I imagine scouts will be keeping a close eye on 22 year old Hutton following this performance.

BARCELONA 3 (Clerc 21 og, Messi 82, Henry 91)
LYON 0
Squillaci got drawn out of position by Iniesta as he collected a pass from Deco and cut inside the box, Clerc and Bodmer were also sucked in leaving Messi with an easy tap-in. Bodmer capped off a dreadful individual display with another mistake, he tried to tackle Dos Santos as he ran onto a through pass and completely missed both ball and player, Dos Santos dribbled past Squillaci and shot straight at Vercoutre and Henry put away the rebound to score his first goal for Barca.

ROMA 2 (Perrotta 9, Totti 70)
DYNAMO KYIV 0
Perrotta’s goal followed at least 15 passes, I say at least because the directors joined the build up in progress. Totti touched the ball four times alone, his final pass was to Aquilani who found Tonetto is space out wide, after the Dynamo Kyiv defence had been completely pulled apart, and Perrotta darted across the box to beat Shovkovskiy with a standing header at his near post. Taddei won the ball in midfield, skipped a tackle and passed to Perrotta, he threaded the ball through to Totti and he fired inside the left post.
Attendance : 50,000
Assists : Tonetto, Perrotta

PSV 2 (Lazovic 59, Perez 80)
CSKA MOSCOW 1 (Love 89)
Perez played a one-two in midfield before bursting forward, taking two defenders with him, and centring to Lazovic who dug the ball out of his feet before beating the advancing Mandrykin. Perez doubled PSV’s lead with a thunderous shot from the edge of the box. Zhirkov released Love, Gomes flew out of his box to clear and completely missed, leaving the Brazilian to poke into an empty net.
Attendance : 32,500
Assists : Perez, Kromkamp, Zhirkov
FENERBAHCE 1 (Deivid 43)
INTER 0
And Inter wonder why Milan got so much press for their Champions League campaign last season. Of the 16 coaches eligible to vote in the UEFA footballer of the year awards, Roberto Mancini was the ONLY coach not to vote for Kaka’ as the best forward. Bitter arseholes. Fantastic volley by Deivid.
Attendance : 50,000

ARSENAL 3 (Escude 27 og, Van Persie 59, Eduardo 92)
SEVILLA 0
Fabregas gave Arsenal the lead with a speculative shot from distance which took a wicked deflection of Escude wrong footing Palop in the Sevilla goal. Sagna got the faintest of touches to a Fabregas free kick and Van Persie stabbed the ball in at the back post. Hleb intercepted a Fazio hospital pass, gave the ball to Fabregas and Eduardo tapped in his centre.
Sevilla only managed one shot on target. A massive anticlimax given this was one of the most eagerly awaited clashes of the group stages.
Attendance : 60,000
Assists : n/a, Sagna, Fabregas
SLAVIA PRAGUE 2 (Senkerik 13, Belaiod 63)
STEAUA BUCHAREST 1 (Goian 33)
The Romanian’s failed to clear a longball into the box, Vlcek’s shot was saved but Senkerik was on hand to put away the rebound. Slavia ball watched Goian head in the equaliser from a corner and more atrocious defending lead to the winner, Belaiod volleying in a low cross which was allowed to bounce inside the box.
Attendance : 19,000
Assists : n/a, Nicolita (ck), Drizdal
