Footie-Facts -The English Premier League Title

Is it a foregone conclusion ?

soccer ball Following many years of English football fans making fun of the Scottish league for being a two horse race, a major turnaround has occurred. It is without doubt that our beloved Premier League has now become a one horse race where as the Scottish league is now back to being a competition.

Unfortunately for most football fans the days of an exciting title race are gone.Chelsea or Chelski as they are known by some will win the title at a canter,The television coverage for the last game of the season bears this out as in recent times the teams shown are either trying to avoid relegation or desperately trying to grab the last UEFA Cup spot.

Manchester United have begun the new season with three straight wins whereas Chelsea have already lost to a very average Middlesboro side one has to wonder if even the most avid United fan believes it is likely that come May their team will be crowned champions again.

Other Teams seen as being able to compete for the Premier League honours are Arsenal whose squad even with the addition of Ex Chelsea man Gallas does not have the strength in depth to really compete for the title and as for Liverpool they rely far to much on the overrated Gerard to overturn Chelsea dominance.

The gulf in class between Chelsea and the chasing pack is there for all to see. They have world class players, A bench filled with names that would almost certainly would be automatic team choices in any other side in the league, An Inspirational manager in Jose "The Special One" Plus an infinite supply of cash to make any necessary adjustments to the team when the transfer window opens.

It is widely believed that Chelsea's target for the season is to become European champions. This is a far more challenging task than winning the Premier league.History shows that in cup competition being the best team is often not enough to win the cup. In the past couple of seasons bad decisions (The Liverpool goal that did not cross the line) and bad luck (Drawing Barcelona) have thwarted Chelsea European Cup Ambitions. Will that be the case this year or will they finally win the cup and silence the critics who say that you can never be a great team if you fail to win the Champions league? This in turn leaves everyone pondering over this very interesting question -If Jose Mourinho wins the European Cup with his Chesea stars will he continue to manage them or will he go out in a blaze of glory? I suppose only time will tell but it is clearly something that could happen The "Special One" is always full of suprises so the football world can be sure there will be more to come

Even if our league has become predictable we still love it and continue to hope it will be our team who beats the Champions however I for one will not be holding my breath for it to happen
