Football
And The Transfer Window
Is
Greed Ruining The Game?

Am I the
only person who is glad to see the transfer window close?
At least for a few months we can get rid of the images of greed
that blight our game. Do the players that fans worship really
believe that we are stupid enough to fall for their empty
promises. Get real we are fed up of players "committing their
future" to our clubs, kissing the badge declaring once a blue,
red, white or any colour you choose then a few weeks later
leaving to join another team. Of course if we are to believe
these mercenary's all this has nothing to do with money its all
done for "football reasons". Ok I may have some belief in
players moving onto to the clubs that regularly qualify for the
Champions League but to move to teams that are clearly doomed
to the Championship can be about only one thing - MONEY. The
fans are being cheated here with constantly rising ticket
prices just to pay these prima donnas huge wages. Fans of teams
fighting relegation who overpay to get players in to save their
premier league status are being cheated more than most, The
players they sign are ONLY at their club for the money and
chances are they couldn't care less if their new employers get
relegated as their agents have negotiated a "Get Out" clause to
ensure there will be no lower league football for their player.
So when the season ends for the three doomed premier league
clubs and their relegation is confirmed the greedy players
along with their even greedier agents will just move on without
a care in the world and their pockets filled with money
claiming the failure of their previous team had nothing to do
with them. History shows that many relegated teams never
recover from this and once great sides languish in the lower
divisions bankrupt.
The answer to this problem is not going to be easy to find when
you look at the game closely you see there is no loyalty left
in the game Many club chairmen are now business men rather than
football fans so every move they make is about making money for
themselves and their shareholders, Managers leave to manage
larger but less successful clubs for money. The players just
want more and more money. You may think there is nothing wrong
in wanting to earn more money but you have to bear in mind that
these people are already earning more than they could
reasonably spend in their lifetime so why do they need to earn
more The players are entitled to improve career prospects no
real fan would want to stop that but sadly a look at the
January 2007 transfer window will reveal it is more about
improving their bank balance than improving their prospects
within the game.
